The Cuban Revolution turns fifty years old. Fifty years of history, myths and challenges of a country that has influenced politics and culture around the world, becoming for many the symbol of the revolt against capitalism.A country full of contradictions, but which has always exerted a great fascination for its strong political and cultural identity. "The Gold of Cuba" wants to go deep and reconstruct the most exciting and the mostdramatic moments in the history of the Caribbean island. But it also wants to analyze the present through the testimonies collected from many young people who tell their hopes, opinions, expectations and dreams, trying to imagine the future that awaits this small country with a great history.

Love conquers all – ruthlessly and irresistibly – as Emperor Nero and his mistress Poppea remove the obstacles to their union. At 19, David has his diploma (the first in his family), a job at a car wash, and little else. His family is broke and argues constantly. So, unannounced, David leaves Turin for his uncle's farm in Polesine. Here he learns many life lessons over the course of a summer while hanging out with Bosnian drug dealer Alem and Patrizia, an older woman who's an addict.

Andrea, a nurse, is married to Marina, who runs a casting agency. Their life is peaceful and brightened by the presence of Claudio, their child. Claudio and Andrea share a great passion for kites, and one day, while flying a kite, the boy suffers a slight fainting spell. This episode reveals to his parents the serious illness their son is suffering from, which will mark their lives forever.

Paolo invites his American friend Sam to Rome with the promise of a film to direct, but it takes a lot of money to make it, and they plan to steal a Modigliani painting from a wealthy producer.

An early baroque masterpiece, Monteverdi's L’incoronazione di Poppea was inspired by The Annals by Tacitus and celebrates the love of the emperor Nero and the courtesan Poppea. Filmed at the 2008 Glyndebourne Festival, Robert Carsen’s production brings together Danielle de Niese, Alice Coote and the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment under the direction of Emmanuelle Haïm.

Everything is sacrificed to passion, in this tale where evil triumphs, virtue and reason are humiliated, and nothing corresponds to our moral principles. Jan Lauwers, the director and choreographer, sets L'incoronazione di Poppea in a way congenial to his means: a visual artist, he translated the emotions expressed by Monteverdi’s music into dancing and visual images. The result was mixed; the general impression was one of many ideas, seemingly not fully developed or analysed. The stage was constantly cluttered with moving bodies, or tableau vivants, leaving a sense of confusion, and distracting from the music.
